Description

The proportion of young women taking the pill in Germany has dropped from 46% to 35%1. However, this figure shows that a significant number still use oral contraceptives. The reasons for this are varied and range from contraception to issues with acne, as well as menstrual disorders or PMS. Most women are aware that the pill can have side effects. However, the fact that these preparations can also affect the nutritional balance is new to many. This is particularly critical, as women have a more complex nutritional requirement due to their hormonal balance than men. Consequently, this can lead to vitamin and nutrient shortages. Deficiencies, in turn, can have various health consequences. To avoid this, we have developed our PILLEN SUPPORT: With this, you can support your body with essential vitamins and nutrients during the intake of the pill. The capsules contain a composition tailored to the needs of B vitamins, vitamins C and E, coenzyme Q10, and black pepper extract to optimise availability.

The benefits of the PILLEN SUPPORT capsules at a glance:

  • With vitamins, coenzyme Q10, and black pepper extract
  • To support nutrient balance during pill intake
  • Easy to take in capsule form

What influence does the pill have on nutrient balance?

Scientific studies have demonstrated that taking the pill can also affect nutrient levels.2,3 The reason for this is that the pill can increase specific proteins in the blood, which can lead to a redistribution of micronutrients.4 This particularly affects the levels of B vitamins such as folic acid, vitamins B1, B2, B6, and B12, niacin, and pantothenic acid, as well as magnesium, zinc, selenium, vitamin C, and vitamin E.5,6,7

Possible effects of the pill on micronutrient balance at a glance8:

  • Possible reduction of vitamin A stores in the liver
  • Possible reduction of folic acid levels
  • Possible reduction of vitamin C and E status
  • Possible reduction of magnesium and zinc status
  • Possible reduction of selenium

Since all these nutrients perform different functions in the body, you should pay attention to an adequate intake during pill usage. A balanced and nutrient-rich diet is important for this, but well-composed dietary supplements can also help ensure adequate supply.

These nutrients support you with our PILLEN SUPPORT

As already mentioned, if you take the pill, you have an increased need for micronutrients. In everyday life, however, it is often not so easy to ensure that you are getting all the important micronutrients. Therefore, it can be sensible to additionally rely on dietary supplements that are tailored to the nutrient needs of women, alongside a balanced diet. Our PILLEN SUPPORT capsules, in combination with the base of Essentials and Mineral Complete, can help you to balance your nutrient deficiencies while taking the pill.

Comprehensively supplied with B vitamins

The intake of the pill can negatively affect the levels of B vitamins. An insufficient supply of these vitamins can have numerous negative consequences, such as for the cardiovascular system, skin (including mucous membranes), hormonal activity, as well as the nerves and psyche. To help you prevent deficiencies, our PILLEN SUPPORT contains a combination of B vitamins that perform all important functions in the body:

  • The vitamins B2 and niacin support the maintenance of normal mucous membranes, including the vaginal mucosa. Since many women experience vaginal dryness while taking the pill, supporting the mucous membranes is important.
  • Vitamin B1 (thiamine), B2, niacin, and B6 are also known as nerve vitamins, as they support the psychological function of the body and the normal functioning of the nervous system.
  • Vitamin B2 and niacin also contribute to the maintenance of normal and healthy skin.
  • The included vitamin B1 supports normal heart function. Vitamin B6 also has an – albeit indirect – influence on heart health, as it contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism.
  • The vitamins B2, B6, niacin, and pantothenic acid help reduce fatigue and tiredness. Vitamin B5 – also known as pantothenic acid – additionally supports your mental performance.
  • Pantothenic acid also contributes to normal synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones, vitamin D, and some neurotransmitters. Additionally, vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity.

Vitamin B12

Compared to the other B vitamins, taking the pill has a significant impact on vitamin B12 levels. Studies have shown that taking oral contraceptives leads to a low level of vitamin B12 in the blood.9 This effect is particularly critical because, according to the National Consumption Study II, young women aged 14 to 24 years consume 33% less vitamin B12 than recommended by the German Nutrition Society.10 Since the intake of vitamin B12 largely occurs through animal products, young women who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet have an even higher risk of developing a vitamin B12 deficiency. To ensure you are adequately supplied with vitamin B12 while taking the pill, our PILLEN SUPPORT contains 2.5 μg per daily serving, which corresponds to 100% of the reference amount.

Vitamin B12 performs numerous important functions in the body:

  • Supports the normal functioning of the nervous system
  • Supports normal psychological function
  • Supports the normal functioning of the immune system
  • Plays a role in cell division

Folic acid

Folic acid is primarily known as a crucial vitamin for women wishing to conceive or who are pregnant, but adequate supply of the B vitamin is important for women of all ages. Studies suggest that taking the pill may be associated with a lower folic acid level in blood serum.7,11,12 Folic acid has a role in cell division and also contributes to normal psychological function as well as to normal immune system function. The vitamin is involved in normal blood formation along with vitamin B12 and in the production of important blood clotting platelets. Supplementation can lead to a significant improvement in folic acid status. To meet your folic acid needs while taking oral contraceptives, our PILLEN SUPPORT capsules contain 200 μg of folic acid, which corresponds to 100% of the nutrient reference value per daily serving.

Vitamin C and Vitamin E

Vitamins C and E are known for their antioxidant effects, meaning they prevent damage from free radicals to body cells. However, scientific studies have concluded that taking the pill can also negatively affect the levels of vitamin C and vitamin E. Over time, this can have negative consequences for the body: both vitamins are not only important for immune defence, but particularly vitamin C is also involved in numerous other processes in the body. It contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system and normal psychological function and also increases iron absorption, which is especially important for women. To reduce the effects of oxidative stress, scientific findings have shown that taking vitamin C and vitamin E is effective.7,13

Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 is a compound that the body produces and stores in the cells. The coenzyme has many functions in the organism.14 Taking the pill can negatively affect the level of coenzyme Q10 in the body. In women who took oral contraceptives, significantly lower levels were observed than in participants who did not use hormonal contraception.7,15 Therefore, coenzyme Q10 is included in our PILLEN SUPPORT capsules.

Black pepper extract

Piperine is one of the most important ingredients of black pepper, responsible for its spicy taste. In addition to being used as a spice, black pepper or piperine is also attributed various positive effects on the body and metabolism. For example, black pepper extract is known as a bioenhancer. Bioenhancers are substances that can improve the absorption of nutrients in the stomach and intestines. Thus, black pepper extract can facilitate better nutrient absorption in the intestine.16

Effective combination with ESSENTIALS and MINERAL COMPLETE
